Discussion Issues
April Demonstrations Discussion
- Reduced TRANSP run - on the order of 1 to 10 minutes
- Can be a predictive run for TTF
- Julia Child like demo - mini-run not done but visualization data from full run
- Monitoring TRANSP run
- State of run, who is doing run, what project or experiment, when it was queued,
when did it start, what physics time has it advanced to, CPU time consumed
- Will this info be persistent in a RDB by April? Nice to have real time display
and persistent DB
- If not persistent we need to create our own display
- Monitor display should have hooks into Run Management DB to view run comments
- Geographic Info Viz - ANL Info Viz from SC01? If not ANL solution what to do?
- Hardware Infrastructure at show
- Linux workstation with IDL, MDSplus, RDB access: PPPL will check if they
can supply a laptop, machine needs to be stable, Laptop can only drive
one screen - do we need more than one display?
- Large plasma screens from ANL (2)
- Network T1 ok?
- Chairs and table
- Poster and handouts (derivative from SC01)
- Email and wireless connectivity to draw people to our display room
- Resource Policy
- TRANSP code - can they run it
- DIII-D/C-Mod/NSTX data
- Data reading and writing to MDSplus and run management DB
- Show EFIT demo as well so people realize what we have done is
not only for TRANSP
- TRANSP data visualization in IDL via MultiGraph running on showroom floor
- IDL GUI to setup and launch TRANSP run - also loads pieces of run management DB
- This GUI runs on workstation on show room floor
Resource Policy Discussion
- Code usage: many codes can run on a machine but access can be limited to one code
- On machine execution is allowed or not
- username, server, tree, shot number - to make code run
- interface to PBS and Globus job manager?
- Data usage: subsets of either MDSplus or SQL data can be made available
- CPU usage: stakeholder may wish to grant a user access to a machine for a certain
amount of CPU time for any code on that machine
- allotment on a month and year basis
Local Arrangements - MIT/PSFC
The links below have information on local hotels.
You will note that hotels here are fairly expensive.
Usually the government rate is the
lowest - we can also arrange for MIT rates if that is better for anyone.
The Hotel@MIT, is the closest - just a couple of blocks from us at the
PSFC. The two Marriott's, the Hyatt, the Radisson and the Sonesta are
all within walking distance (1/2-1 mile) - we could also arrange to pick
up people staying at these hotels when we drive in. (which may be
welcome in January) The hotels in Harvard Square are an easy bus ride
away.
I (Greenwald) have heard good things from visitors who stay at the two bed and
breakfasts as well. They are a bit cheaper....
If you are staying at any of these places in town, you don't need (and
probably don't want) to rent a car. The MIT/PSFC is a short cab ride from Logan
Airport and many of the hotels have shuttle services.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Martin Greenwald or
Tom Fredian or Josh Stillerman or email Valerie Censabella (censabella@psfc.mit.edu),
who takes care of travel stuff for MIT/PSFC.
