Fusion Grid

The Access Grid is an ensemble of resources including multimedia large-format displays, presentation and interactive environments, and interfaces to Grid middleware and to visualization environments.

In the fusion community, there are presently nodes in operation or being installed at DIII-D (General Atomics), C-Mod (MIT), PPPL, and ORNL. The full list of AG nodes worldwide is available here. AG nodes are being used for tokamak operations, working meetings, and seminars.

AG nodes are typically divided into three different installations. (1) A large lecture hall size room with ceiling microphones, speakers, sophisticated audio echo cancellation equipment, numerous video cameras and three projectors; (2) The Personal Interface to the Grid (PIG) designed for approximately 10 people or less with one microphone, speaker, and echo cancellation equipment provided by a Polycom phone, and a variety of display and camera options depending on room configuration; and (3) A personal node designed for one person.

Recommended hardware for the PIG and individual node is listed here.

Request for additional Access Grid information should be addressed to Mike Papka of ANL at papka@mcs.anl.gov.
