Here are some proposed topics for day 1 of the workshop. Some questions
(such as who would like to give an overview of Fusion codes). If you have
strong feelings about these things, or would like to rewrite this
completely, or have more things to add, or have new issues to raise, please
send me mail.
Proposed topics:
1) MDSplus and relational database (by Tom and Josh):
- what it is, what it is not,
- how it works,
- what components it implements (and how they work),
- what platforms it runs on,
- experssion evaluator
[Tom and Josh: I threw these two things together; perhaps it would be
better to do something like "data management in Fusion" and briefly review
the requirements that led you to developing this design and talk about the
mdsplus, but also of your metadata management, what do you think?]
2) Fusion codes/applications and mode of operation (by ?):
- what are the applications and what do they do,
- what are their interactive requirements (say: they write data to
a remote server every timestep),
- how much data they consume/produce,
- parallel or not,
- how are all of those things likely to change (or not); platforms
etc.
3) Akenti (by Mary):
- what is Akenti (from the point of view of how it could be used
in this project),
- how are use policies formulated, is there a language/grammar
- if I were to download Akenti tomorrow, what would I need to use
it, and how could I use it (is there a "hello world" example")?
4) topics in Globus (by Kate):
- GRAM overview ( what components it consists of and how it is
currently implemented, where are the hooks to security, more?)
- job monitoring in Globus (with examples and in the context of
the documents sent out by Martin and Doug)
- a quick overview of Data Grids (more with an eye on some future
stuff we would want to do)...
5) Discussion (brainstorming/planning) session:
topics:
a) Akenti / gridmapfiles / shared accounts / use policies and
their refinement
b) job monitoring: what do we have what do we need, what is
satisfactory for a time but would have to be refined later
c) topic identified during talks
