I think that to some extent this is true, but defining a specific set of
machines for a collaboratory gives you the opportunity to streamline the
process of requesting accounts on them. Also the hope is to make getting
accounts "on the grid" and generally using the grid easier for users. So
perhaps pre-grid getting accounts is no different than post-grid but it
should. Other than that I agree with your task list 100% (although we
should probably talk about the details of some of them ;-).
